The Institute of Export has further boosted membership and enquiries after providing a strong presence at the Going Global, Global Mobility and Accountex exhibitions at London’s Excel on 15th & 16th May.

The Institute advised aspiring and novice exporters on doing business more effectively in international markets and IOE Director General Lesley Batchelor was one of the keynote speakers at the ground breaking exhibition and conference designed to help businesses harness best practice when trading internationally.

Lesley’s “Top Tips for Exporting” seminar highlighted the Institute’s long history in promoting professionalism in international trade.

Drawing on Lesley’s breadth and depth of personal experiences in international trade, the Director General stressed the need for effective research when planning to enter overseas markets. Examples ranged from cultural issues, such as the significance of particular colours in a country’s culture, or the need to understand and adapt to local business etiquette, to practical issues such as payments, regulations and tax.

The Institute was also present as an exhibitor at Going Global, with a stand manned by the IOE team, offering advice to a number of companies thinking of exporting, providing information on the Institute’s range of short course export training and professional qualifications – and also welcoming a number of existing IOE members.

In addition, IOE Director of Special Projects, Mike Josypenko delivered a presentation on both days of the show, in conjunction with the Open to Export website, aimed at new exporters and companies considering exporting for the first time. The aim was to guide them into exporting in a professional and structured manner.

Mike commented: Going Global and its associated exhibitions provide a great environment for companies to access practical advice on international trade.  It gives visitors the chance to meet with a number of key export support organisations, such as the Institute, and to take advantage of an extensive programme of informative seminars and presentations.”

Both Lesley and Mike also took part in group discussions on exporting, hosted by the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) at the Accountex exhibition, which ran alongside Going Global.

An expert panel, which also consisted of representatives from UK Trade & Investment and a high street bank, were invited to offer personal experiences and tips on more effective exporting, from their experiences in international trade, and also answered a number of questions from the audience.
