The Board of Trustee Directors

The IOE&IT Board of Trustee Directors is the elected governing body of the Institute, responsible for overseeing its strategic focus and management as a registered charity whose aim is to support and promote international trade as a force for social and economic good.

It is led by the IOE&IT Chair, Terry Scuoler CBE MIEx, supported by the Vice Chair Marcel Landau FIEx (Grad) and Honorary Treasurer Jayakumar Venkataraman, MIEx.

Chair

Terry is one of the UK’s pre-eminent industrialists – a highly successful business leader and champion of manufacturing, recognised in 2017 with a CBE for services to the manufacturing and engineering sectors.
Elected chair of the IOE&IT in 2017, Terry is helping raise the Institute’s profile and support its mission to promote the importance of exporting and the wider benefits of international trade.

Terry is also a non-exec director and business advisor working with company boards and entrepreneurs to develop and grow their businesses.

Army career
Having gained an economics degree at Glasgow University, Terry attended the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, emerging as an infantry officer.

In 1984 he joined Royal Ordnance (now part of BAE Systems), holding senior positions in commercial, procurement and general management roles in the UK, Western Europe, North America and the Middle East.

From loss-making to growth
In 1999 he led a management buy-in of Ferranti Technologies, becoming managing director and steering the company from making a loss to substantial growth and profitability.

Industry profile
From 2010-2015 as CEO of the Engineering Employers Federation (EEF) (now Make UK) Terry raised the profile of British industry with government, the media and other stakeholders, helping to set the UK on a path to re-industrialisation. Terry chaired the Board of the European Council of Engineering, Manufacturing and Technology Companies (CEEMET) from 2014-17 and has sat on the Boards of SEMTA and the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Institute (AMI).

Marcel Landau

Vice Chair

An IOE&IT member since 1965, and awarded IOE&IT Fellowship in 2006, Marcel serves as Vice Chair for the second time.

Marcel gained his expertise in international trade at firms including Rimmel and Ben Sherman and in 1971 founded packaging manufacturer Marland Ltd. After its sale in 2006, Marcel started LSM Consumer & Office Products.

Marcel has served as a NED of Business Link Lincolnshire and Rutland and had a long association with Cranfield School of Management. A Freeman of the City of London through his membership of The Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers, Marcel sits on the Manufacturers Forum within the BOSS Federation.

Jakes

Jayakumar Venkataraman

Honorary Treasurer

Jayakumar is the Managing Partner and leads the Financial Services and Insurance Practice for Infosys Consulting in Europe. He has 30+ years of experience in the Financial services domain. Prior to joining Infosys Consulting, Jayakumar worked as a Corporate Banker at Citibank, BNP Paribas and in the areas of Transaction Banking Operations, Credit Risk Management, Corporate Relationship Management.

In his role as a Consultant, he has worked with major Financial Services and Insurance clients bringing in deep Domain expertise and Advisory capabilities to help them in the design and delivery of large scale business transformations.

He has also published and presented at conferences, webinars on topics such as Digital Transformation, Customer experience and Operational excellence and on domain areas such as Lending, Trade Finance, Payments and Cash Management.

Sangeeta Khorana

Chair of Academic Board

Sangeeta Khorana is Professor of Economics at Bournemouth University where she leads research on trade governance and bilateral negotiations.

A member of the UK government’s Export Trade and Development Advisory Group, Sangeeta has completed projects for the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (now FCDO), among others.

Sangeeta has advised the Commonwealth Secretariat, the European Commission, Inter-American Development Bank and other institutions on trade and public procurement reform issues.

Mark Lincoln

Mark began his career with Maersk and has since gone onto develop an international cross industry career as a change leader and growth enabler, across global supply chains and end to end business, of which examples include Chief Supply Chain Officer roles at Cambridge University Press and Costa Coffee; and Transformation UK Board Director at Alliance Healthcare. Currently, Mark is consulting for a major renewables business in revamping their end to end supply chain and enabling the business for growth. Mark has been a Trustee Director at the IOE&IT since 2018.

Dominic Brown

A senior transaction banking executive, Dominic has broad commercial banking experience and C-suite contacts in Europe and Middle East markets.

Since 2020 Dominic has served as CEO of FINEON Exchange, a global platform for multi-currency and multi-jurisdictional trade finance assets.

Dominic has successfully delivered strong business growth through deep product knowledge and segment expertise, coupled with hands-on relationship development and active team leadership.

With extensive business leadership experience gained in the UK and overseas, Caroline’s passion is in creating diverse, high-performing business environments, with a focus on skills development and lifelong learning.

Appointed chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) in 2019, Caroline is responsible for its day-to-day leadership.

Before this, as CEO of EEF East Anglia and then Chief Operating Officer of Make UK, Caroline led Make UK’s key operating areas, including apprentice and technical training, cybersecurity, health & safety and sustainability services.

Nicholas Clark

Versatile international trade management professional. Experience of international supply chain operations as well as international marketing and business development. Active trainer delivering international trade courses on a variety of subjects.

Skills developed in a wide range of industries/products traded worldwide and obtained working for Multinational, SME and micro companies, as an employee, interim manager and consultant.

John Alty

John Alty joined the IOE&IT board in September 2022 having previously been the director general of trade policy at the Department for International Trade (DIT) between July 2016 – when the department was established – and January 2021. He was also DIT’s interim permanent secretary for the first eight months of 2021.

With extensive business leadership experience gained in the UK and overseas, Caroline’s passion is in creating diverse, high-performing business environments, with a focus on skills development and lifelong learning.

Steve has been CEO of AIM-listed, multinational engineering and manufacturing group Avingtrans since 2008.

Prior to this, Steve worked at Serco as director of the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington and as MD of Serco Defence Operations supporting MoD bases around the world.

He also worked at Mars Inc, Oxford Instruments plc and GEC Marconi. A Fellow of the Institute of Physics and of the Chartered Management Institute, Steve has served as a non-exec director of the EEF (now Make UK) and of the UK Atomic Energy Authority.

Through her responsibilities she has lead sales, marketing and customer experience teams across Europe, Americas, Middle East and Asia.

With over 30 years of transformational leadership responsibilities, conducting mergers and acquisitions, driving global expansion, new products and market launches as well as implementing premium corporate global accounts programs. Her focus has been in successfully redesigning commercial organisations to deliver value to companies and customers alike.

Philly is currently Chair of the Board of Directors for 2 Tech companies headquartered in Norway. The IOE&IT combines her passion for developing highly skilled professionals and increasing international trade, connecting people and economies globally.

Sean Ramsden

Sean is Founder and CEO of Ramsden International, the UK’s leading international wholesaler of British groceries, supplying products from more than 400 UK manufacturers to retailers in more than 130 markets worldwide. In the 30 years since he founded Ramsden International, he had travelled to more than 80 markets to sell the best of British food and drink, and led the business to collect three Queens Awards for Enterprise in International Trade, and more then 90 other awards and accolades. A graduate of Cambridge University and Harvard Business School, he also sits as a non-executive director of the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) and the Food and Drink Exporters Association (FDEA), as well as a number of other commercial, non-profit and academic boards. He was previously a member of the Government’s Strategic Trade Advisory Group (STAG) and is a regular commentator in the media and conferences on trading internationally, with a particular emphasis on SME exports. Sean had been crowned “International Director of the Year” by the Institute of Directors, and in 2019 was awarded an MBE for services to international trade.
