Boost your existing foundation degree, higher national diploma (HND) or your existing professional experience with this part-time, two year online work-based course with the University of Plymouth.

The programme has been designed to help you develop the knowledge and skills to work effectively as a competent and confident professional in today's ever changing workplace. A perfect choice for all professionals who wish to use the acquired knowledge and skills immediately in the current role or wish to pursue their career further.

Students will study 60 credits in Year One and 60 credits in Year Two, thereby completing 120 level 6 credits over two years, requiring approximately 10 weeks of learning activities to complete.

The course structure is designed to give you an opportunity to study anywhere and anytime to suit your lifestyle.

There are two enrolments each year - January and September.


Entry Requirements

You'll need to hold a foundation degree in business or a recognised level 5 equivalent. You may be eligible for admission to the programme on the basis of previous work experience or training.


Year One modules:

International Trade Operations and Strategy (20 credits)
Global logistics environment; customer service; inventory management; global transportation; warehousing and materials handling; purchasing; trading and marketing channels; supply chain strategies.

Professional Management Practice (20 credits)
This includes five core areas: leading people; managing change; market and customer awareness; managing information and knowledge and managing activities and resources.

International Trade Policy and Compliance (20 credits)
International law; industrial regulations; and compliance with international financial regulations that govern business transactions.

Year Two modules:

Management Research and Evaluation (20 credits)
Research and evaluation skills and techniques applied to your own practice.

Work Based Action Research Project (20 credits)
Investigate a specific problem or issue at your place of work or relevant to your industry.

Personal Development Planning (20 credits)
Goal setting, influencing, professional identity, values and ethics, communicating and networking.

Study Commitment

As a guide you should expect to study for around 12 hours per week in order to be successful. Your employer will be expected to support your study by providing workplace mentors, and facilitating meetings and assessment, and they may also allow you to allocate some of your usual work time to study.


You will be expected to submit a written piece of work following each module. These could be in the form of a report, essay or a reflective portfolio. You will receive feedback from your work-based tutor and mentor.

Fees & Funding

The full fee is £8,600 payable in four instalments: two in year one & two in year two.
