Qualifications for service leavers

The Chartered Institute is committed to supporting Armed Forces personnel, reservists, veterans and their families. We have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and are a preferred supplier to the Ministry of Defence (MOD)'s Career Transition Partnership.

As a service leaver, our qualifications help you apply your logistical, leadership and communications skills in an international trade context.

Funding from the MOD’s Enhanced Learning Credits can be used towards Chartered Institute qualifications, accessible through the Enhanced Learning Credits Administrative Service (ELCAS). You'll be able to search for us as a provider and claim your funding via the ECLAS website very soon.

What service leavers say about a career in international trade and customs

International trade is a great career for anyone in the military. With the exposure you have had to international conflict, politics and logistics, you will be surprised how much of it is transferable.

My career in the Royal Air Force (RAF) gave me insight into the practical application of supply chains and logistics, which supported my transition to a customs role when I'd left the service.

Our qualifications are coming soon to the ELCAS website.

Here's how you'll access your funding as a service leaver:

  1. Check eligibility and access your account – confirm you’re eligible for Enhanced Learning Credits (ELC) funding and obtain/login to your Enhanced Learning Credits Administrative Service (ELCAS) account via your Single Service Representative.

  2. Choose your qualification – select one of the Chartered Institute of Export & International Trade qualifications (Level 3 or above) on the ELCAS website - or find us on the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) website.

  3. Submit your claim – log into ELCAS and submit your application.

  4. Get approved and enrol – once you receive your Claim Authorisation Note (CAN), provide it to the Chartered Institute (you can use our Contact Us form), pay your contribution, and start your qualification.

We are proud to have signed the Armed Forces Covenant

Signing the Armed Forces Covenant is a voluntary public commitment by an organisation to support members of the Armed Forces community, including serving personnel, reservists, veterans, and their families. It means recognising their contribution and ensuring they are treated fairly, with no disadvantage compared to others, and offering additional support where appropriate.
