The Selling Services, Software and Skills Overseas course provides students with an extensive understanding of both managing the intangibility of any service and delivering effective services overseas. The course is appropriate for any student of either a pure services or a manu-service business environment. 

Students will be guided through critical features such as analysing and developing a service, International issues when delivering services overseas, selection of appropriate methods of delivering services locally and managing the service process.

The course comprises of seven sections, each on a different aspect of service and of international trading.

This section addresses main principles of service relationships

  • Assessing the service customer – needs & wants
  • Using the Blueprint process to identify key customer interfaces


This section addresses importance and technical processes of trading international services

  • Current international service trading performances
  • Review of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATT)
  • Current EU Services Directive
  • Examination of international constraints on services

This section addresses key planning decisions when delivering overseas services

  • Understanding the international trading environment
  • Developing a Market entry checklist
  • Making target market decisions
  • Review of the options and modes of delivering services

This section addresses application of the Services marketing 7 P’s

  • Understanding the Services product in line with standardisation or differentiation
  • Branding the Service offer
  • Protecting the Service through managing Intellectual Property
  • Developing appropriate promotional and communication mix
  • Understanding the potential cultural issues and dealing with them appropriately

This section addresses the many aspects of successfully delivering the service overseas

  • Understanding the commercial benefits or either franchising or licensing the service
  • Applying current e-trading techniques to the service offer
  • Adding value & quality to the service offer
  • Understanding the essential techniques involved in balancing demand to capacity
  • Reviewing the essential elements of contracting a service delivery
  • Examining the appropriate methods of getting paid
  • Managing the international service risk

This section addresses the main elements of operating the service overseas

  • Developing and managing local service people & teams
  • Reviewing methods of staffing – local & expatriate
  • Dealing with local clients
  • Utilising local social media opportunities
  • Understanding the requirements of achieving local service leadership
