British businesses have an opportunity to learn about new solutions for completing import declarations for trade with the EU at a free webinar next week.

Experts from Digital Trader Services – a new digital portal and advice service for completing customs declarations – will be speaking on the webinar hosted by the Institute of Export & International Trade at 3pm on Wednesday 12 May.

Declaration requirements

Although new rules were introduced for trade between the UK and EU at the end of the transition period on New Year’s Eve, most firms in Great Britain importing goods from the EU have not yet had to complete customs declarations.

The UK government last year decided to introduce controls on goods entering the UK from the EU in three phases over the first six months of 2021, though the dates at which these new rules are to be introduced were recently postponed until later this year and the start of 2022.

Among the changes will be the requirement for companies to complete customs declarations for all goods entering Great Britain from the EU.

Guidance

The free IOE&IT webinar next week will guide traders through what the new rules for importing goods from the EU will be and when they are due to be introduced.

Experts will give practical advice about what traders can do to prepare for these changes – including using the new Digital Trader Service to complete declarations.

Expert speakers

Hosted by IOE&IT Academy director and webinar regular Kevin Shakespeare, DTS experts Shanker Singham and Frank Dunsmuir will be presenting and answering audience questions.

Singham is the CEO of international trade law and economic policy consultancy Competere and a former advisor to the UK Trade Secretary and US Trade Representative.

Dunsmuir is the head of international trade and customs at Fujitsu and a non-executive director of the International Border Management and Technology Association.
