Director general Marco Forgione giving speech

“The Institute of Export & International Trade (IOE&IT) welcomes today’s announcement (23 March) that the Anglesey Freeport has been green-lit by the government in collaboration with the Welsh Assembly.

We look forward to working with our consortium partners, Stena Line and Anglesey County Council, to help build a really high-skilled, high-capability international trade hub around Anglesey and Holyhead.

IOE&IT will be looking to see how we can build a real centre of excellence for global trade for Wales and to deliver wider benefits to the whole UK.

The aim of this freeport is to transform not just the economy of Holyhead and the Isle of Anglesey, but to have a wider social impact that will be felt for generations to come.

It is an exciting time. And IOE&IT is a proud partner in delivering this ambitious, environmentally sustainable, green energy and GreenTech focused freeport.

We are delighted to have been supporting this bid – alongside our wider consortium partners - over many months. We are confident that this new centre for excellence will help generate highly skilled employment opportunities for local talent, supporting the prosperity of communities across Anglesey and North Wales.

It is an important step in helping to deliver a more resilient, prosperous and sustainable vision for Wales.”
