Covering core logistics principles and trade compliance essentials, this qualification prepares learners for the day-to-day realities of supply chain operations.
The supply chain and logistics sector currently faces a shortage of formally qualified professionals, especially those with up-to-date knowledge of trade compliance and customs regulations. Many businesses rely on staff learning on the job without structured training, leading to inefficiencies and risk of costly compliance errors.
Our Level 3: Supply Chain & Logistics Award equips learners with the knowledge they need to thrive in the sector, helping companies avoid delays, fines, or disruption.
This qualification sets the groundwork for progression into roles such as logistics support officer, import/export clerk, or junior customs advisor.
No formal qualifications are required for this course. All candidates must be 16 years or older to be considered for direct entry to the award.
This qualification consists of four units of learning:
- Understand the role of HMRC and international customs authorities
- Learn which documents need to be completed
- Learn about the data which is required for these documents
- Gain awareness of the benefits of customs special procedures
- Learn how to use 'the Tariff'
- Achieve a broad knowledge and skills to effectively navigate the process of import/export plus an awareness of customs procedures and international trade regulations.
- Understand the import/export process and the responsibilities attached to international trade
- Be able to classify a product for import/export and appreciate the factors influencing the import/export process for a product.
- Be able to acquire a broad understanding of the import/export process and to advance their individual/ organisations awareness of handling the import journey.
- Understand the UK:EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA)
- Learn how to comply with the Border Target Operating Model (BTOM)
- Ensure product regulatory compliance when trading with the EU
- Gain an understanding of the latest regulatory changes
- Learn what a commodity code is and how it is structured
- Understand the importance of the WCO Harmonized System
- Learn how to interpret the UK Global Tariff and EU TARIC
- Practice classifying your goods with the correct commodity code
- Learn how to use your product’s code to determine taxes and other measures
- Recognise the role of tariff classification in determining new US duty rates on UK-origin goods
The average time it will take a student to complete this qualification is 50 hours.
Each module of learning is covered in a four-hour online learning session starting at 9am and finishing by 1.00pm GMT. Students can choose to take each individual four-hour module at a date convenient to them, with bimonthly dates offered for each module.
Students will need to complete an assessment module and pass a formal assessment submission in order to be awarded the L3 qualification.

All four modules and assessment must be taken within two years to complete this qualification.
On completion of the training days, candidates will engage in a further assessment module in order to achieve the qualification. This module is supported by a tutor and you will be required to successfully complete an assessment testing your knowledge of the course learning outcomes.
