– including SPS risk categorisations

In April, the UK government published a draft plan for implementing import controls on goods entering Great Britain (GB). This included a new approach to conducting sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) controls on animals, animal products, plants and plant products from the EU.

On 23 May, the Institute of Export & International Trade (IOE&IT) ran its second webinar (you can watch the first webinar session here) about the new model, including an overview of the new risk categorisations for SPS-controlled goods.

In this Update on the draft Border Target Operating Model webinar recording, the IOE&IT trade and customs experts update traders on the government’s latest thinking around the implementation of the proposed border model following their participation in several workshops with HMRC and DEFRA officials.

The 90-minute webinar covered:

  • A recap of what’s in the Border Target Operating Model

  • The new risk categorisations for goods subject to SPS checks

  • How checks and controls vary according to these risk categories

  • Updates on what has been discussed in government-industry workshops on the new model

  • How your business can provide input on the final version of the model
