Sean Ramsden MIEx, a board member for the Institute of Export & International Trade and the founder and Chief Executive of Ramsden International, has been awarded an MBE for services to International Trade.
Sean’s recognition in the 2020 New Year’s Honours List is much deserved and he has been keen to acknowledge the huge contribution of his employees, customers, suppliers and other associates.
For over 25 years Sean has overseen Ramsden International's global successes, distributing over 23,000 British branded-food and drink products to 133+ countries across five continents.
Sean also holds several advisory and non-executive positions within the food industry, including membership of the DEFRA Agri-Food and Drink Export Forum, Non-Executive Director of the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), and a Trustee of Borough Market.
Recognition for the UK’s International Traders
Sean was not alone among the UK’s global traders in gaining recognition, with several exporters and business leaders recognised in the New Year’s Honours List.
Liz Truss, the International Trade secretary, said:
“I am proud to see that so many successful exporters and inspiring business leaders who have championed exports have been recognised for their work contributing to local and global prosperity. This illustrates the strength of our British business people, and I am delighted that the nation is championing their excellent work.”
The recognition comes as the UK’s exports continue to soar to record levels, reaching £675 billion in the 12 months to October 2019.
A sign of the growing importance of international trade to the UK
Export skills and knowledge are set to become more important than ever, with the UK to leave the EU at the end of January before a transition period lasting till the end of the year.
The recognition of leaders from the UK’s export community, including several staff at the Department for International Trade (DIT), therefore reflects the leading role they will play in the years to come.
Antonia Romeo, Permanent Secretary at the DIT, said:
“It’s brilliant to see numerous exporters and business leaders recognised in the 2020 New Year Honours List, showcasing the success of British exports abroad. I am extremely proud of our DIT colleagues recognised for their dedicated service to international trade - many thanks and congratulations to them & everyone recognised.”
