The last two years have seen unprecedented levels of change in how businesses in these islands trade, IOE&IT director general Marco Forgione writes.

As part of that process, businesses of all sizes in Northern Ireland have been investing in training their teams and taking advice to adapt to – and in many cases thrive in – the new environment.

NI presence

The IOE&IT is the country’s largest provider of training and qualifications in international trade. Its team members are based across the country and around the world, and Northern Ireland is no exception to that. Our newly-appointed director of the IOE&IT Academy, Aimee Maltman, is based in the region.

Northern Ireland already benefits from IOE&IT expertise, through consultancy we provide to local businesses and our popular ‘Moving goods into or out of Northern Ireland’ one-day course.

Next step

Opening an office in Northern Ireland is the next step in bringing the advantages of engagement with the IOE&IT to the local business community.

To help businesses in Northern Ireland facilitate trade in the changing environment, the Institute is opening an office in Bangor in partnership with South Eastern Regional College (SERC).

An invitation

This new office will be formally opened at 11.00am on Thursday 3 March 2022 at The Space, Castle Park Road, Bangor BT20 4TD, to which Northern Ireland firms engaged in exporting and importing – or with ambitions to do so – are cordially invited.

At the opening, SERC Principal Ken Webb and I will outline the partnership and set out our hopes for a successful programme of training in trade facilitation in Northern Ireland.

We currently offer five fully funded modules through the college, with a further two in the offing – and we would like to widen this offer even further.

The official opening will be followed by a networking lunch.

If you can attend, please RSVP to events@export.org.uk by 25 February, stating any dietary requirements.

We look forward to seeing you on 3 March.
