I am sure you are all aware of the unfolding humanitarian crisis happening in Afghanistan and have seen the harrowing scenes of people fleeing their homes on the news, IOE&IT director general Marco Forgione writes.

It is heart-breaking to see such suffering and it is difficult to contemplate the anguish and uncertainty that comes with leaving your home, country, and family behind.

Here at the IOE&IT we have been shocked by this situation, as I am sure many of you have been. We want to help those who will be resettled here in the UK by undertaking a charity bike ride to raise funds to support these efforts.

Financial help a priority

For those who have managed to leave Afghanistan, the UK is one of the nations where they now find themselves preparing to resettle. The reality is that in these early days following their arrival in the UK, simple financial support has to be the priority for Afghan refugees.

To aid this urgent cause the IOE&IT’s people are embarking on a number of events and efforts to raise much needed funds, to support their arrival.

Sponsored bike ride

One of which is a 100-mile bike ride from our Export House head office in Peterborough to our new London office location. Myself and members of the team will be spending a gruelling day in the saddle on Friday 24 September.

The aim of the ride is to raise £2000 to donate to charity to help the resettlement of Afghan refugees. The IOE&IT have set up a Just Giving page here for people to donate to and support this excellent cause.

Your support for the ride and the fundraising effort would be hugely appreciated and all donations will be going direct to Afghan refugees arriving in the UK. Please do give generously if you can.

Huge thanks from everyone at the IOE&IT.
