Managing the complexities of current trade whilst preparing for changes in 2027

Traders in the food and drink sector will be all-too familiar with some of the complexities of international trade.  Whether it be labelling or certification, there are many factors which traders must get right to ensure safe passage of their goods across the border.

There is also anticipation amongst the sector for the introduction of the SPS agreement in 2027 to bolster trade with our closest trading partners in Europe.

The Special Interest Group will shine the spotlight on further guidance released in May 2026 detailing some of the anticipated changes to be brought in because of the UK-EU SPS Agreement, and what this may mean for your business. We will also be focusing on the latest current guidance for imports both into the UK and EU, given recent changes to some returned or rejected SPS goods. Finally, we will also be discussing the SPS compliance journey for one of the members of the SIG group (Princes Ltd – keen to join but not 100% confirmed just yet) on how they have managed to navigate difficult regulations to remain competitive, and what they are doing to prepare for the upcoming changes as part of the SPS agreement.

Agenda:

  • Introduction by Hayley Zeff, Head of Membership at the Chartered Institute
  • Presentation by Joseph Goldsworthy, Technical Manager, Advisory at the Chartered Institute
  • Open discussion in breakout rooms
  • Closing remarks

When: 10am-10:45am BST, Wednesday 24 June 2026
