Enhanced Controls and Regional Instability: Guidance for Exporters to the Middle East, Israel and Iran

Recent conflict in the Middle East, including tensions involving Israel and Iran, has made export control compliance more challenging. With the UK tightening rules on sensitive and dual use goods, any shipments to the region now face closer scrutiny and longer licensing processes.

For 2026, exporters should expect stricter checks, more detailed paperwork, and higher risks if information is incomplete or inaccurate. High tech and dual use items—such as advanced electronics or specialised components—will need stronger internal controls, earlier planning, and clearer end use assurances.

This SIG will focus on practical steps that members, customs and compliance teams can take to manage these heightened risks, avoid delays, and maintain full compliance when trading with high risk destinations in the Middle East.

This Special Interest Group is designed to help members of all levels, navigate these responsibilities with confidence. Members will receive insights into governance expectations, emerging regulatory trends, and practical steps for embedding accountability across their organisation. It is also an opportunity to learn from peers and share real‑world approaches that work.
