lumsden queen award

As part of our build up to the Queen's Award Gala Dinner this September, we're talking to some of this year's international trade winners.

In this interview, we talk to Lumsden Design from London.

What does your business do and where are you at the moment in terms of your exports?

We specialise in designing retail stores for Visitor Destinations. Our retail design concepts for the likes of the British Museum, V&A and Tate Modern have enabled us to export our skills all over the world.

We are currently working in New York and Japan with the Museum of Modern Art, Warner LA and the soon to be opened Museum of Contemporary African Art - MOCAA - in Cape Town. We have also been working in Vienna, Orlando, Ottawa, Moscow and St. Petersburg on equally prestigious projects.

Congratulations on winning a Queen’s Award! How did it feel to win one and how has winning one impacted your business?

We were delighted and extremely proud to receive this award and it was a fantastic boost to the morale of our design team as well as the management team.

We have received many plaudits from existing, as well as past clients and the PR has been terrific. This recognition has been particularly welcome from our international clients, especially in the USA.

Are you looking forward to the Queen’s Award dinner? What are you most looking forward to about it?

It will be great to meet up with some of the other businesses who will be there. The diversity of the winners is really impressive and it will be great to hear their stories and to share knowledge with each other.

What’s the next big thing for your business?

We are actively working hard to develop our business in Asia and specifically in Hong Kong and China. The USA is proving to be a great opportunity for us as well. Within the next 6 moths we are hoping to launch a consortium of specialist partners, who can reinforce our business proposition, so that we can provide our clients with a service which provides a total package for every aspect of their commercial requirements in the Visitor Destination Sector.
