The Institute is delighted to have presented our Advanced Certificate in International Trade (ACIT) to  Rachel Metcalfe, logistics administrator at Forum Energy Technologies (UK) LTD. Rachel not only passed but achieved a Distinction.

Employing 250 people at Kirkbymoorside, the business exports sub-sea technologies, including remotely operated vehicles, tools and parts to oil, gas and communication industries across the globe, including Japan, Nigeria, Brazil and Russia.

Rachel embarked on the ACIT programme to gain the necessary skills, knowledge and expertise to enhance her understanding of exporting and international trade. The logistics administrator found the flexibility of the distance learning style fitted in with work and home and completed the qualification in 20 months.

Says Rachel: “The ACIT was ideal as it focused on the practical aspects of international trade and enabled me to apply my learning into the business. I work in the shipping department and among the course’s biggest benefits is helping me with the bigger picture and see how all the departments of a business work together to export successfully.

“The course has developed my understanding of the critical roles that departments such as sales, accounts, and marketing play in making our business successful. My bosses have been supportive throughout and they can see the value my new skills and knowledge can bring to business performance.

Lesley Batchelor, the Institute of Export Director General, says: “The IOE plays an invaluable role in equipping businesses with the skills and confidence to trade effectively in a global and the importance of boosting skills and expertise in this key area cannot be overstated.

“The ACIT brings a wealth of benefits – enabling students to demonstrate a detailed knowledge of the principles, procedures and documentation of International Trade.
