Congratulations to Jenny Hooper – IOE director and trustee and MD of Independent Freight Solutions Ltd – on being named the Leader of the Year at the 2015 FTA everywoman in Transport & Logistics Awards.
Established eight years ago, the awards highlight the successes of the women who work in transport and logistics, and we can think of no worthier a winner than Jenny.
Her win is a deserving acknowledgement of her impressive leadership skills and business acumen, which saw her launch her own business – Independent Freight Solutions Ltd – in 2004 after a successful career in freight forwarding.
Harnessing the skills and experience she gained working in freight, logistics and international trade, Jenny created a company that specialises in providing international freight and transport services to businesses involved in international trade.
Her wealth of experience in transport & logistics, particularly in the world of international trade – exporting and importing to and from the Middle East, North America, Canada and the Far East – has enabled her to grow the business and increase its customer base both nationally and internationally, doubling turnover year on year to its current six-figure annual turnover.
A champion of women – both within her own organisation and in the logistics sector – Jenny joined leading industry figures at the recent awards ceremony at the London Hilton on Park Lane where she was presented with her award.
Independent Freight Solutions places a great emphasis on education and training within the company and actively pursues apprenticeship programmes and encourages staff to gain international trade and other qualifications. The company’s employee base is 50% women, many in senior posts, and there is an emphasis on flexible working and opportunities for older women. It is exactly this level of skill, understanding and experience that makes Jenny such a valued member of the Institute of Export.
Jenny says: “Women have a great deal to offer and are increasingly bringing their skills into this traditionally male domain – as the awards demonstrate so clearly. I am honoured to be recognised amongst such a prestigious group of women in the transport and logistics sector.”
In addition to her role as a director and trustee of the Institute of Export, Jenny is also involved in many other industry bodies and women’s organisations, working tirelessly as a business/logistics leader and women’s champion in the Midlands. A founder member of the Midlands branch of the global Women’s Presidents Organisation (WPO), she also served as chair of BIFA East Midlands from 2010-2013.
