Terry Scuoler CBE MIEx - Chair
Following graduation from Glasgow University with a degree in economics, Terry attended the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst and was commissioned into the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders where he served for five years as an infantry officer. On leaving the Army in 1978 he started his commercial career in publishing and in the construction industry.
In 1984 he joined Royal Ordnance (now part of BAE Systems) as European Marketing Manager and worked in a number of positions of increasing responsibility and seniority in commercial, procurement project and general management roles. During his time at BAES he worked in the UK, Western Europe, North America and the Middle East.
In 1999 he led a management buy-in and became Managing Director of Ferranti Technologies Ltd and with a supportive team returned the company from years of decline and a loss-making situation to one of substantial growth and high profitability. He puts down his success at Ferranti to a very strong team ethic, a commitment to investing heavily in the business and an early recognition of the need to develop people and skills at all levels.
Terry became CEO of EEF in March 2010 with a vision and commitment to encourage a renewed interest and support the resurgence of the UK’s manufacturing and engineering sectors.
He has been instrumental in raising the profile of the sector and putting it at the heart of Government economic policy.
He sits on a number of Ministerial Committees, from 2014-17 chaired the Board of the European Council of Engineering, Manufacturing and Technology Companies (CEEMET) which represents over 230,000 companies and sat on the Boards of SEMTA and the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Institute (AMI).
He is also recently been appointed Chair of the Institute of Export and International Trade (IoE).
In 2017 he was awarded the CBE for services for the Manufacturing & Engineering Sectors.
He is married with a son and a daughter and enjoys skiing, running and reading.
Robert Keller - Hon. Treasurer
Rob’s career in banking and finance has spanned over thirty-five years in diverse positions with four of the largest global financial institutions and a Fortune 50 multinational corporation.
In recent years, he as held senior positions in trade finance product management and sales as well as in relationship management with RBS and its legacy bank ABN AMRO in the UK, the Netherlands and Italy.
During his banking career he also held a wide variety of roles in the UK, and the US with American Express Bank and Chase Manhattan Bank where he was credit trained. He has demonstrated ability in risk management and development of business strategy, products and propositions.
Rob is also an articulate presenter and internal/external thought leader. His professional interests include education and professional development in the field of Trade and Export Finance.
Nicola Bolton MIEx
A high energy leader, I’ve worked internationally for most of my 30-year career in the private and public sectors.
Previously as Managing Director for Trade at UK Trade & Investment, I was instrumental in increasing government support to business, from micros to large corporates, to build capability and skills for exporting. I have a background in advanced manufacturing, corporate strategy, digital transformation of businesses and operational delivery, with a track record of starting up business units and turning round underperforming operations.
Before joining the civil service in 2007, where I’ve also been a senior civil servant in the Home Office and the Cabinet Office, I spent most of my career at IBM. I was the chief operating officer for IBM’s sales business for the media, energy, telecoms and utilities sectors across Europe, Middle East and Africa before taking on the role of Government Industry Executive Director in 2003. I also spent two years at Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard in Ireland.
A consistent theme in my career has been to build partnerships which empower parties to innovate and deliver step changes in quality of business performance, and accelerate attainment of goals. I am keen to ensure that the IOE stays centre stage in the government’s mind, and that we use our position to underline the importance of world trade to business and economic success in the UK.
Marcel Landau FIEx (Grad)
Born in London in 1947 and educated at Haberdashers’ Aske’s School, Elstree. After leaving school in 1965, Marcel initially spent 6 years at Dunbee Export Sales Ltd, learning the basics of Export and International Trading, eventually becoming Export Sales Executive at Rimmel Ltd and latterly Export Sales Manager at Ben Sherman Ltd
Marcel started his own Packaging Manufacturing business (Marland Ltd) in 1971, which grew into a large International enterprise employing around 100 people in South Lincolnshire. In the early part of the 2000’s they set up our own Subsidiary Company in Germany with both manufacturing and distribution facilities which looked after their European interests. The business was sold in 2006, following which Marcel started an Import/Export Agency/Trading business (LSM) in 2009, which still trades very actively.
Having joined the IOE&IT as a Student Member in 1965, Marcel was elected to Council and then onto the Board in the early 1990’s, eventually becoming Vice Chairman of the Institute. Resigned in 2006, but in 2011 rejoined Council and then in 2014, rejoined the Board. Was awarded a Fellowship in 2006.
Outside his own business, Marcel also served as a Non Executive Director of Business Link Lincolnshire and Rutland from 2002 until 2006, and also spent a 15 year period associated with Cranfield School of Management on their Business Growth Programme for Owner Managers until the end of 2013. Marcel currently sits on the Manufacturer’s Forum within the BOSS Federation and have served as a Judge at their Annual Industry Performance Awards for the last 5 years.
Admitted as a Freeman of the City of London in 2014 as a Member of The Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers.
David Maisey MIEx
Dave Maisey is the CEO and Co-Founder of ICC Solutions Limited, a global leader in the provision of innovative test tools for Chip & PIN. Dave has been heavily involved in international trade for 20 years and his company exports to 63 countries.
Recently, ICC Solutions received the high accolade of being awarded their second Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade. This is the company’s third Queen’s Award overall having also won one in the Innovation category. This reflects Dave’s commitment in delivering excellence to the company’s international client base and implementing efficient and comprehensive export practises.
Dave also has a firm objective to help enhance British exporting and to inspire others to investigate the growth opportunities offered by international trade.
Working closely with the Institute of Export & International Trade, Dave is looking forward to engaging in new export related initiatives.
Maria Malinowska MIEx (Grad)
Maria's career has been devoted to international trade, in corporate and investment banking, electronic trade finance and related financial technology. Her experience supporting UK exports includes capital plant exports, aircraft finance, project finance and supply chain finance.
As a Trustee Director, Maria brings to the role market expertise, financial product expertise, broad industry experience both private and public sector, comprising capital plant manufacturing, the aerospace and defence sector as well as technology, insurance and education. Maria is dedicated to the ongoing success of the Institute as it progresses to Chartered status and further develops its offerings and expands the student learning experience.
Maria is a Graduate Member of the Institute and holds a Masters Degree in Operations and Supply Chain Management.
Sean Ramsden MIEx
Sean Ramsden is the founder and Chief Executive of wholesale food exporter Ramsden International distributing over 23,000 British branded-food and drink products to 133+ countries across five continents. In addition to overseeing the business activities of Ramsden International Sean also holds a number of advisory and non-executive positions within the food industry, including membership of the DEFRA Agri-Food and Drink Export Forum, Non-Executive Director of the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), and a Trustee of Borough Market.
Over the last 23 years, Sean has led Ramsden International to win numerous awards, including three Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in International Trade. Sean is a graduate of the University of Cambridge and a graduate by Executive Education of Harvard Business School and Stanford Business School. He has received several personal awards for entrepreneurship, including twice finalist in the EY Entrepreneur of the Year awards.
Richard Smith-Morgan MIEx
Richard is currently Head Risk at UK Export Finance having previously run the Government’s Trade Finance & Insurance Business.
Prior to UKEF, Richard worked in London, Paris and New York with Credit Suisse, Moody’s and GE Capital focussing in particular on SME & Structured Trade Finance transactions. He is committed to helping the Government drive export volumes and is leading a project to automate the provision of working capital and bonding facilities.
Richard graduated from Durham University and is a Non Executive Director of Arkus Financial Services, a small risk management software company based in Luxembourg.
*Director General - Lesley Batchelor OBE, FIEx (Grad)
Lesley Batchelor is a champion of UK exporters, with a powerful track record in enhancing the performance of hundreds of businesses.
Appointed director general of the Institute of Export & International Trade (IOE&IT), after taking the Chair for a 3-year period, as DG she has been working to provide qualifications and support for business for over 10 years. Active on the APPG Advisory Panel on Trade & Investment, the APP Manufacturing Group and provides evidence to the House of Lords Select Committee on Government support for SMEs. A director of International Business & Diplomatic Exchange and of the International Association of Trade Training Organisations Lesley is often a leading light in thought leadership issues connected with international trade.
After 15 years working with blue-chip giants including Fujitsu Europe, Canon, Ciba-Geigy and Coca-Cola, Lesley set up CMC Marketing in 1992 to develop inspirational overseas strategies and international training programmes for SMEs. In 2007 she joined the Institute of Export where she has forged influential partnerships with many national and international associations. In 2014 she was appointed CEO of Open to Export a digital platform for new and inexperienced exporters set up as a collaborative CIC with FSB, UKTI, HSBC & the IOE&IT which has now become an exciting addition to the IOE&IT portfolio of services.
Lesley is a graduate of the Institute of Export qualifications and the Chartered Institute of Marketing. She has invaluable expertise in intellectual property, global licensing and marketing. Awarded in the OBE in the 2014 Birthday Honours List and recently judged to be the CBI Real Business First Woman in Business Services for 2015.
*Chair of Academic Board - John Robinson MBA MSc DipM FIEx (Grad)
John retired from a senior post in a NATO headquarters after a successful career in the RAF and merged second careers in both international trade and higher level teaching at a number of East Midlands colleges and universities where he taught all the Institute’s qualifications.
As the Education Secretary of the East Midlands branch John was appointed to the Professional Qualifications and Examinations Board of the Institute on its inception.
After a brief role as vice-chairman, he took on the role of Chairman of the renamed Academic Board in 2007 and has been at the head of all recent educational developments, including the Foundation degree. He was elected a Fellow in 2011.
