CONTINIOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

The (IoE) Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme supports its mission “to enhance the International performance of the United Kingdom by setting and raising professional standards in International Trade Management practice”.

The CPD programme allows members of the IoE to maintain and develop their knowledge, skills and competence, systematically throughout their career within international trade. In addition to recognising the development of a member’s technical knowledge, the IoE CPD programme takes into account the enhancement of the practical skills which are required to operate effectively and professionally within the International trade arena.

Why should I complete a CPD programme?

A membership category exists which will allow you to add (CPD) to your existing qualification i.e. MIEx (CPD). You will also receive a CPD certificate for each year you complete the CPD programme as evidence of your professional development.

Associate members who complete three consecutive years of CPD activity will be eligible to upgrade to full membership on payment of the appropriate fees.

What does the IoE CPD programme entail?

The IoE scheme requires a member to secure a minimum of 100 credits of activity each year. There are two parts to the credit points, these being ‘Contemporary Issues’ and ‘Other International related activities’. You must earn a minimum of 50% from Contemporary Issues and 50% from the Other Activities and other International trade related activities that you are involved with

In addition to completing your CPD record which is accessed via the member’s corner of the Institute’s Web site and logging into your personal CPD, it is recommended that you keep a detailed record of your activities as further information may be required to substantiate the award of your CPD certificate. You should record:

A brief description of the activity
Your intended learning outcomes
How you benefited from and / or applied the learning outcomes of your activity
Evidence of your activity
Your personal comments or observations

How are CPD credits recognised?

When you have attained your annual minimum of 100 credits, you should contact Export House so that verification can be carried out. In some cases Export house may request your file or logbook. Following approval you will be sent a certificate of achievement in recognition of your Professional Development. If you have not achieved the full 100 points you may still request an acknowledgement of the credits you have achieved.

All IoE short courses and many other International Trade events will record the number of credits that have been awarded for the event and that you are entitled to claim towards your CPD. When you attend an IoE short course you will be awarded a certificate from the organiser (by request) to add to your portfolio.

How do I secure CPD points?

You can secure CPD points through a wide range of activities associated with International Trade but there are some limits on the type of activity that you can earn credits towards your CPD. These are set out below.

A Minimum of 50% of your points must come from your development in the Contemporary Issues listed below and a Maximum of 50% from Generic Issues, including those listed below.

Your CPD activity may involve developing your knowledge and skills in other fields (e.g. insurance, finance etc.) In order to claim the correct level of points towards your CPD from courses or International Trade Events that are not run by the IoE or do not have any CPD points allocated please contact Export House for guidance on the number of points that you can claim as this will depend on the Level of the course or event that you have attended and can range from 7.5 points per day to 20 points per day.

Notes:

Private study would include Technical reading of magazines and technical books on International Trade. Technical research on International Trade.
Conferences would include seminars and meetings where Technical subjects were discussed and developed.
Meetings would include IoE Regional meetings where there were presentations / discussions on International Trade and associated subjects. Work related meetings with an International Trade content and associated subjects. Meetings with clients / associates / contacts where Technical aspects of International Trade required researching and explaining to clients / associates / contacts.
IoE activity would include attendance at official meetings such as the PQEB, DTWP, Post Examination Workshops, Examination Curriculum meetings, Regional committee meetings.
This would include Tutors, Trainers and those presenting or teaching at seminars on International Trade and associated subjects.
Short courses would include IoE courses and other short courses. The IoE courses show the CPD points that can be claimed. CPD points can be claimed for other courses but the number of points will depend on the level of the course. A level 2 course will earn 10 points per day or 5 points per half day, a level 3 course will earn 15 points per day and 7.5 points per half day, a level 4 course will earn 20 points per day and 10 points per half day. Please refer to Export House for clarification on the level of your course if it is not already shown on the course literature.
Post Qualification Studies would include Higher Education in International Trade or associated subjects leading towards a Foundation Degree, Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree or Doctorate. It would also include higher level qualifications such as NVQ 4’s and NVQ 5’s in associated subjects. If you have any queries please contact Export House for clarification and guidance.
