Jo Lavan FIEx

Jo is a Fellow and Graduate of The Institute of Export.  She has extensive international trade management experience, especially in relation to the Far East and Central and Eastern European Countries, including international marketing research, consultancy, leading trade missions and fact finding visits.  She has both written and delivered several business training programmes for these markets and brings practical information, first hand knowledge, experience, networks and contacts for ‘doing business’.

She is now a director of a private and independent company which specialises in helping companies build  business in China for trading and investment.

Andy Nemes FIEx

Andy spent 25 years in commercial banking, specialising in international trade financing, before establishing his own independent consultancy and training company which develops strategic international finance solutions.  In both contexts he has provided advice, support and carefully selected financial products to companies across the full spectrum of size and capability, from first-time international traders through to complex, multi billion dollar asset enterprises.

Andy Passionately believes in the need to demonstrate professionalism and the notion that a good grasp of international trade processed and practices underpins the success and profitability of export business.

Anthony Pierce FIEx FCIM

Anthony is a highly experienced, Trainer and Lecturer who has valuable expertise in the more specialised areas of the international finance including Trade and Project Finance, Performance Bonds and Guarantees, Currency Risk Management, Money Laundering, Management of International Supply Chain Risks and Corporate Governance.  He is a Tutor to the Institute of Export undergraduates and a Lecturer on the University of Salford’s MSc International Banking and Finance Programme.

Anthony is a Director of a company specialising in advice and training in export risk control and also of an international trading company.  He is the author of several books and articles on export finance, barter and countertrade, contract bonds and guarantees and international cash management in addition to his involvement in the Institute’s education, training and CPD programmes.  He is an Alumnus of London Business School and Cass Business School. 

Jim Sherlock MCIM Cert Ed, FIEx

Jim is one of the foremost International Trade trainers in the UK with over 25 years practical experience in the design and delivery of customised courses from one day seminars to five day residentials.

Following experience in the UK export manufacturing sector and 20 years as Senior Lecturer in International Trade at Manchester College, Jim is now a full time Trainer and Consultant in international trade and the Director-educational projects of the Institute of Export.

He is co-author of ‘The Handbook of International Trade’ (Kogan Page) and author of ‘Principles of International Physical Distribution’ (Blackwells), and a contributor to ‘Directions in International Marketing’ (Routledge), ‘Financial Management Handbook’ (FT Law and Tax), and ‘Your Business Your Bank’ (IoD).

Lesley Batchelor MCIM, MIEx (Grad)

Lesley Batchelor is a Graduate Member of the Institute of Export and a past Director, who is a lively supporter of exporters across the country.  After 17 years experience with Blue Chip companies supporting and appointing agents and distributor she left to work as a distributor of computer hardware and software.

For the last 12 years she has worked with smaller companies training in the practical aspects of international trade.  Although still training in the basics she now specialises in training companies to exploit their intellectual property and creative work in international markets.

Richard Brentnall MIEx

Dick has spent many years working in senior marketing, sales and training positions for prominent international and UK companies.  His responsibilities have ranged from the marketing and selling of consumer products through to retailing management.

Whilst his early career was spent working in the UK, he has subsequently gained much practical export marketing and sales experience in Europe, the Middle East, East Africa and, for the last 8 years, the Americas.

In 1996, Dick set up an export business development, mentoring and training consultancy.  He works with clients in the UK public and private sectors as well as undertaking overseas assignments.

John Harrison MMRS, MIEx

John is an experienced Trainer currently working in a consultancy capacity with a range of organisations involved in international trade and also on e-Government issues.  These include British Chambers of Commerce, Institute of Export, UKTI and Eurochambers.  John has significant international trade experience having worked with the Chamber of Commerce movement in the UK and overseas and closely with UK Trade and Investment for more than 12 years. 

He has also acted as National Counsellor for the UK for the EU sponsored Partenariat programme and has led delegations of British companies to more than a dozen overseas markets.  He has worked closely with small and medium sized enterprises, advising them on marketing research issues whilst employed on the UK Trade and Investment Export Marketing Research Scheme. 

John has also conducted extensive international research within the aerospace and electronics sector, notably in North America.

Tony Harrison MIEx

Tony is a practising Shipping and Compliance Manager within a substantial international manufacturing company.  He has been involved in this type of function in excess of thirty years.  He has now diversified into a key training role covering both UK sites and international associated locations.

With the current increase in the extent of and the changes to the Export Controls, Tony has specialised and focused very much on the current needs of the UK industry in this critical area.  This includes consideration of the need for some companies to comply also with the complex USA regulations.

However, his areas of responsibility cover the wider spectrum of export regulations with a strong interest also in the shipment of Dangerous Goods, where he is a qualified DGSA.

Roger Kagan MIEx

Roger is a member of several professional bodies and a fellow of the Institute of Freight Professionals.  He is also a fully qualified Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA), the subject area in which he has been providing specialist training for many years.

After more than 20 years in the industry, mainly at senior management and Director levels, Roger diversified into importing and exporting consultancy in the early 1990’s, he also became a Director of a company running a Customs Approved Terminal.  In 1999 he became a Director of a company that provides statutory services in Dangerous Goods handling, loading, unloading, detailing and transportation.  He is the co-author of ‘The DGSA System’.

Amanda Lockett MIEx

Mandy’s training credentials are based on almost 20 year’s extensive experience as a company Export Sales Manager, travelling widely to markets around the world, and an International Trade Manager for East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce.  Her responsibilities encompassed a wide range of international trade activities from market research to getting paid.

Her training experience encompasses designing and delivering a wide range of courses and her style of deliver is enthusiastic, interactive and knowledgeable whether the course is a basic introduction or a National Export Sales Qualification.  She is a senior member of a team delivering training throughout the UK.

Robin MacKay LTI, MIEx

Robin is an experienced Trainer who has spent 15 year’s in the in the industry and 5 years as a Director of International for the UK’s largest Chamber of Commerce.  He brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his training courses and a great deal of empathy with the needs of exporting companies of all sizes.

Much of Robin’s international experience was gained in the textile where he managed 30 Agents and Distributors whilst running two sales subsidiaries overseas; an experience which qualifies him to advise authoritatively on the selection and management of overseas representatives.  He is determined in his efforts to inspire companies and help them to improve their export performance, especially when approaching new overseas markets.

Liz Mason MIEx LL.B (Hons)

Liz has worked in international trade for over 20 years, in the private, public and banking sectors.  Her experience covers export sales, shipping and finance and she has worked in a consultancy role with businesses as an International Trade Adviser.  Currently, she is the International Trade Manager at Yorkshire Forward supporting businesses to trade competitively in international markets.

Liz specialises in the legal aspects relating to international business.  She is a law graduate from the University of Leeds specialising in contract, company, international, European and commercial law, and, she is a graduate member of the Institute of Export winning the prize for the Law module.   

Ed Murphy MIEx

Ed is a very experienced Trainer, designing and delivering a wide range of international trade courses and projects for companies, private sector and public sector support organisations.

He is International Trade Director of East Lancs Chamber of Commerce and has led a nationally recognised team of highly experienced personal for over 10 years.  He previously enjoyed 22 very successful years in export sales, mainly in the textile engineering, rubber and electronics industries and is very widely travelled.

Delegates benefit from his professional training skills, wealth of practical experience and genuine enthusiasm, from basic introductory courses to Export Sales National Qualification courses.  

Jim Robinson MIEx

Jim imported timber products and exported waster processing machinery in the early 1970s to Eastern Europe.  He later worked for the UK machinery manufacturers for the cereal milling and paper making industries and travelled in Africa, South America, the Caribbean, Greece, Scandinavian and Turkey.  His training and presentation skills were developed during this period first to influence decision makers and then to educate course delegates.

He joined the East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce as an International Trade Adviser in 1997 and his training skills have been further developed across a wide range of international trade subjects.

Clive Savigar MIEx

Clive’s long and varied career in international physical distribution started 40 years ago as a Freight Clerk and he now runs freight forwarding and dangerous goods packing operation in the Midlands.

A Fellow of the British International Freight Association (BIFA) since qualifying in 1966, Clive is now a Chairman of Midlands Region, and a member of BIFAs Packing and Dangerous Goods Advisory Groups.  In 1988 The Princess Royal presented him with the BIFA "Freight Forwarder of the Year Award" for services and commitment to freight Forwarding.

Clive qualified as a Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser in 1999 and remains a hands on practioner both as a Director of his dangerous goods packing company and as a consultant within Dangerous Goods Safety Advisers.   

 

Mike Stokes MIEx AIBA

Over a period of 20 years Mike built up a wealth of experience as an exporter in a fast-moving and volatile industry, latterly at Director Level.  During this period, he traded with all regions of the world and developed expertise in the areas of: selection and motivation of distributors and agents, implementation of multi-brand, multi-channel strategies, management of large pan-European customers and effective negotiation across a variety of cultures.

Independent since the beginning of 2004, Mike provides consultancy, mentoring and training services for new and existing exporters.

Peter Thompson BA (Hons) MIEx

Peter is an Honours Graduate of the University of Sussex with many years commercial experience in home and export sales.  He ultimately became Sales and Commercial Director in an energy management company with responsibility for all international sales, purchasing and contract negotiation. 

Peter became a freelance Trainer in 1998, since 2003 Peter has headed his own training company.  Founded in 1975, this company continues to provide courses in international trade.
