Professional Practice in International Trade
An innovative degree course developed in collaboration between the Institute of Export and International Trade and Anglia Ruskin University. The Foundation Degree in Professional Practice in International Trade is a two-year course aimed at those looking to develop their career and pursue further academic qualifications.
The course is taught online by University tutors and international trade experts, with full access to University resources. The degree is assessed through workbased assignments, ensuring that the learning is translated into business and personal impact.
Designed to fit around full-time employment, the course is suitable for all professionals, regardless of industry or sector, who may be working in export, import, trade or international business. It is intended to bridge the gap between the Institute’s NVQ qualification range and degree courses – offering significant benefits to both employees and employers.
Understanding Work Based Learning and your work sector
Gives you an understanding of work-based learning and helps you develop analytical, technological and communication skills. You will focus on the key features of successful management and applying key business tools.
The business environment of international trade
Provides you with a broad knowledge of how global economic developments impact international trade. You will also be given insight into international trade law and legislation.
The legal environment of international trade
Covers the law, as it is applicable to international trade. You will learn about the law relating to contracts, international sales to both businesses and consumers, and agencies.
Finance of international trade
Provides you with an understanding of key profitability drivers in businesses, and the most appropriate sources of finance to maximise these profits. Managing international risk and appropriate payments systems are the other core elements of this module.
Introduces you to basic marketing concepts, and the principles and practices of international marketing. You will learn to interpret the market environment, carry out appropriate research, analyse information accurately and devise appropriate marketing plans for the international environment.
International physical distribution
Covers the practicalities of overseas transport and distribution, together with the associated legislation and best practice.
Managing projects and organisational change
Introduces and develops the skills and knowledge associated with delivering a successful business project, making effective use of resources and managing change within a business environment.
International marketing strategy
Addresses the development of international marketing strategies and plans including market selection, market entry, the marketing mix and some of the organisational aspects relating to international marketing.
International logistics and purchasing
Builds on the knowledge of transport mechanisms you developed in Level One and will help you to make recommendations based on various measures such as warehousing, inventory and materials handling.
Management of international trade
Addresses the development and use of appropriate techniques of corporate strategy and management in an international context.
When you've completed your Foundation Degree, you can progress on to our BSc (Hons) Degree in Management Practice - International Trade.
Study commitment: As a guide it is estimated that you will need to study for an average of at least 10-15 hours per week on the basis of a flexible work-related learning approach.
Assessment: You won't have to sit any exams to pass this course. Assessments have been designed to utilise and develop skills and learning relating to international trade and management. These are through project work, presentations, course work assignments and case studies.
Entry requirements: We usually require you to have an A level, or NVQ level 3, with Maths and English GCSEs at grade C, or equivalent. If you do not meet these criteria but have relevant work experience you are encouraged to apply and credit may be awarded for prior learning and experience. Such applications will be considered on an individual basis.
Fees: The full fee is £9,000 - £4,500 per year for two years.
