PIT Stop Debate- 17 April 2013 - The European Union: In, Out or a third way?

Come and share your views on EU membership and international trade with The Institute of Export (IOE) and ACCA at the next Professionalism in International Trade (PIT Stop) Debate.

When: 17 April 2013 18:00 - 19:30

Venues: London, Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham, Glasgow, Canterbury, Cardiff,  and Liverpool

With the question of the UK's continued membership of the EU making headlines, a recent straw poll of IOE members highlighted that over 50 per cent of them stated that the UK should remain in EU.

Does this represent a general view for those involved in international trade and what effect (if any) is the current uncertainty around the UK's position having on your ability to trade internationally?

Would leaving be, as the Europhiles assert, a recipe for economic suicide, with a loss of influence and the creation of a whole host of potential barriers to trade?

Could we go it alone and be better off in the process? - Norway and Switzerland both benefit from the single market in Europe without being part of the EU but a forthcoming highly critical EU evaluation report on Norway opens the way for the EU to impose sanctions against Norway for failure to implement EU directives.

Or is there a third way – a re-negotiation of our relationship with the EU short of actually leaving the club, and would the rest of the EU allow us to do this?

Each quarter the Institute holds a national series of debates known as PIT (Professionalism in International Trade) Stop Debates as they quickly provide exporters with a voice for their concerns – more details on our website or call Mat 01733 404 411.
