Summary

International trade involves the buying and selling of goods internationally. This qualification focuses on the complexities of trade and shipping – the process that enables goods to travel from ‘A to B’.

Description

This qualification is designed to build on your current knowledge and studies of the key concepts of international trade and the shipping process (i.e. importing and exporting, shipping documentation, methods of payment, the roles of the different parties involved and shipping and international law), and to help you develop the learning skills required for higher levels of study. It will give you an opportunity, whatever your plans, to expand your understanding of shipping and the shipping process as a whole.

Features of the qualification include:

• Lectures and workshop sessions, to help you understand the qualification subjects;
• Telephone/e-mail support, so you keep in touch with your tutor;
• Assignments, which you will have to complete after each session, to prove that you have understood each subject;
• An examination*, to achieve the qualification.

* Examinations are optional, but are required if you wish to achieve the full COAST Introduction Qualification.

This qualification is suitable students who have achieved COAST at introductory level or the Logistics (Traffic Office) NVQ at Level 2. Qualifications

By completing the assignments and the examination, you can achieve the COAST Intermediate Qualification, which is certificated by the Institute of Export.

Assessment

An assessment score is used to determine whether or not you achieve the qualification. Your assessment score is based on two components:

• Your assignments, which are marked by your tutor. The results gained from your assignments form 50% of your overall assessment score;
• An examination. The result gained from your examination forms 50% of your overall assessment score.

Qualification starting dates and timing

This qualification is run at various times, and at various locations, throughout the year. Qualifications may be programmed as a four-day qualification or as evening qualifications (e.g. one evening per fortnight for eight sessions).
