Russia highlighted on a globe

Everybody has a view on Russia; but the reality is often quite different.

Despite what you may read in the press, Russia and the UK enjoy excellent business relations. Very recently, Russia was the UK’s fastest growing export market and with Sterling weaker, we anticipate strong growth again.

The Institute of Export has teamed up with Albion (Overseas) Ltd to offer a half day ‘Making Russia Easy’ workshop on Thursday 8th December in Peterborough. The session will take a look at opportunities in Russia, practical issues such as finding and working with distributors, product certification, keeping costs down, getting there and sending goods to Russia.

In addition to the opportunities in Russia, there will be an introduction to the brand new and already popular “TRAK” service, which gives companies immediate additional access to the massive markets of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

Over the past two decades Albion have helped hundreds of exporters to do business in Russia. They can do this because they have their own distribution experience – their Moscow office is situated beside their warehouse.

The workshop – aimed at companies and individuals interested in Russia – will enable attendees to discover the tools and information needed to successfully trade with such a large market. It will examine solutions to the issues presented by a devalued Ruble and look at the way forward.

Five facts about exporting to Russia:

  • The biggest country in the world, Russia has the same surface area as Pluto, an area of 17 million square kilometres.
  • Russia has the largest reserves in the world of natural gas, nickel, iron ore, diamonds, silver, tin, zinc, titanium and niobium. Other examples include peat, wood and salt as well as consumables such as drinking water, crab and sturgeon.
  • Russia is highly industrialised. As well as oil and gas, there are other massive opportunities, including the biggest rail project in the world. Key areas for growth include mining, renewables, automotive, construction, power, consumer goods, food/drink, packaging, chemicals, aerospace, communications, engineering, leisure and many more”.
  • Russia continues to make progress in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business rankings: 2016 – 51; 2015 – 62; 2014 – 92; 2013 – 112
  • In connection with events such as the World Cup in 2018, there are opportunities in training, languages, education, HR and the service industry.
