About The Queen's Awards for Enterprise

On 20 July 2009, applications open for The Queen's Awards for Enterprise 2010 - the UK's highest honour for business success, and widely seen as the equivalent of a company knighthood.

The Queen's Awards for Enterprise exist to champion the UK's most enterprising, creative and sustainable organisations - from all business sectors.

Companies can apply for an Award in three categories - International Trade, Innovation or Sustainable Development. It costs nothing to enter, and The Awards are open to any UK-based business with two or more employees. There is also a single category for individuals doing outstanding things to encourage UK entrepreneurship - The Queen's Award for Enterprise Promotion.

Unlike most award schemes, there can be multiple winners in each category. Applications are judged on their individual merit against the high standard of excellence required to win a Queen's Award. As such, these are Awards to which all UK businesses can aspire, regardless of their size or sector.

The benefits of winning a Queen's Award are extensive. In a recent survey of 2008 winners:

• 80% of winners reported added commercial value
• 82% of winners saw employee engagement rise
• 68% of International Trade winners experienced increased recognition overseas

The deadline for 2010 applications is 2pm on 30th October 2009. Winners will be announced on The Queen's Birthday, 21st April 2010.
