We’re delighted to welcome Derek Smail OBE – an experienced chairman and MD with four decades of expertise in national and international publishing – to the Board of the Institute of Export.
Mr Smail, whose extensive networks in the UK and Commonwealth encompass New Zealand and Southern Africa, will advise on policy and corporate governance in his role with the Institute – which is of course the UK’s only professional body offering recognised, formal qualifications in International Trade.
Our director general Lesley Batchelor said: “Derek’s strong track record as a strategist and advisor is second to none and he will add great value to the Institute, which is marking a particularly formative period of expansion as it continues to forge powerful partnerships and alliances on a national and global scale.”
Mr Smail added: “The Institute’s unique role in setting and raising professional standards in international trade management and export practice is more vital than ever as interest in international trade continues to grow.
“Equipping business with the relevant knowledge and skills to ensure successhas likewise taken on an unprecedented importance and I’m looking forward to further enhancing and expanding the Institute’s reputation at home and abroad.”
Mr Smail was elected to the Executive Committee (the Board) by IOE council members and is committed to a three-year tenure in the role.We look forward very much to working with him.
