In a boost to our ongoing campaign to help UK companies export their way out of recession, the Institute of Export has linked up with City College Peterborough to provide a series of programmes delivering the skills required to trade overseas.
Through the College, we are offering qualifications from entry level certificates in the basics of shipping, to diplomas in international trade – ensuring students are well prepared to handle the demands of exporting.
Tanya Meadows, Vice Principal at City College Peterborough said: “We are delighted to work in partnership with the Institute of Export. More and more businesses in the area are exporting products and services into new regions, and these programmes have been designed to ensure their workforces have the knowledge they need to deal with the documentation, and understand the legislation, to trade in overseas markets effectively and efficiently.
“The College has a reputation for supporting training needs for local businesses and I am confident that these new programmes will attract new people into the export market.”
Many small and large businesses across the region export goods and services worldwide and, in the current economic climate, more and more of them are looking to capitalise on new markets overseas.
Our Director General Lesley Batchelor said: “In a rapidly changing global economy, it’s vital for businesses to understand the full implications of international trading; from how to get paid and how much it will cost to collect the money, to the legal exposure of the company when setting up an agent abroad.
“Our pioneering new courses at City College Peterborough prepare graduates for real-life situations, and include the legal aspects of trading internationally and ways of mitigating risks. The programme also addresses market research, marketing in new cultures, logistics and compliance issues.”
