The United Kingdom’s prestigious professional body offering internationally recognized and highly respected professional qualifications in International Trade-the Institute of Export which was established in 1935, have appointed the Institute of Shipping & Logistics (IOSL) as their strategic partner in Sri Lanka, to promote its formal qualifications in International Trade (Exports & Imports) for the Sri Lankan business community and school leavers in the South as well as North and East.

A spokesperson for the IOSL said ” We consider it a great honour to represent an internationally recognized and highly respected professional body such as the Institute of Export, UK and are proud to be the partner in their commitment to introduce the IOE qualifications in Sri Lanka.”

During a recent visit to London made by Minister of Exports Development & International Trade Prof. G.L. Pieris, top management of the Institute of Export (UK), met with him and informed him of their intention to introduce the IOE professional qualifications in Sri Lanka shortly, and apprised him of the value of obtaining a professional qualification in International Trade for our youth and export sector employees, and stated that the mission of the IOE is to “Enhance the export performance not only of the UK but all other countries as well by setting and raising professional standards in International Trade Management and Export practice”.

Whilst imparting the need based professional knowledge, the IOE courses provide a very practical and pragmatic approach to the administration of International Trade.

Given that International Trade is most critical for Sri Lanka’s economic growth, following the successful completion of the war, the dawn of peace and the multi-sector development initiatives embarked upon by the Government will offer exciting career opportunities in International Trade, Shipping and Logistics industries which require adequately qualified Managers, Executives and staff at all levels. The global economy is sustained by international trade through 50,000 ships calling at over 3,000 ports which are patronized by millions of exporters and importers worldwide. Hence there are unlimited employment opportunities for young people seeking a career in international trade.

IOE Qualifications Recommended by FCCISL

This is the First time that an ” Industry Specific ” professional qualification is being offered in Sri Lanka for International Trade, as it is a truism that export – import sector executives and employees have hitherto been enrolling for study courses in shipping, logistics and purchasing & supply etc, due to the absence of a specific qualification. The IOE courses are also invaluable for bankers engaged in international trade transactions. IOE qualifications produce confident decision makers who are required to perform in an industry specific and dynamic environment.

The Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry of Sri Lanka ( FCCISL ), have endorsed and recommended the Professional Qualifications offered by the world renowned Institute Export, UK; not only in view that ” International trade is most crucial to Sri Lanka’s Economic growth, but as the relevant study courses are specifically designed to supply well trained and qualified International Trade ( Exports & Imports ) Managers and Executives, required to develop our Commerce & Industry.”
